Homework Help

I’m sorry to say this, but it’s time to start thinking about homework.  Maybe you’re already neck-deep in projects, or maybe your schoolyear is off to a slow start–either way, it pays to know about all of the great things the library has to help you make it to Thanksgiving break in one piece!

A great place to start any search is the library’s online catalog.  Need a novel for English class?  You can search for the title or the author.  Have a big paper coming up in Social Studies?  Do a “subject” search to find books and even DVD’s on a particular subject (like Susan B. Anthony or Antarctica).  You can even check and see if one of the other MAGIC libraries has your book, and put a hold on it from the comfort of your own home!  Not sure how the catalog works?  Then give us a call, or stop by the Youth Services Desk and we’d be more than happy to help :)

Another awesome place to check for good information is the Online Resources section of the library’s webpage.  This is the spot for our online databases, which often have the same stuff you’d find in a book, just in a more convenient format.  If you want to use a database from home, have your library card handy so that you can log in.
Britannica Online is the perfect spot to start research on almost any topic.  The encyclopedia articles come with pictures, videos, recommended links, and links to other articles to help you on your way.
Biography Resource Center is the hot spot for information about a particular person.  This can be useful of you need to know about somone for Social Studies, English, and even Math and Science.
Check out Literature Resource Center for information on authors and their works–everyone from Shakespeare to Jack Kerouac to Stephenie Meyer!
Opposing Viewpoints has well-researched information showing the pros and cons of many different topics.  If you’re working on a persuasive paper, or need a starting place for a research paper this would be a great database to search!

Looking for some research help for your big paper?  Or maybe you have a question that you just can’t seem to find the answer to?  Email the Adult Services Reference Desk for some extra help, or chat with one of the awesome librarians at AskAway.  And, if all else fails….give us a call or stop by one of the reference desks and we’ll do our best to help out!
