Books into Movies II

For all of you Twilight devotees out there, take a look at Hot Topic’s website–they have a schedule for Twilight movie star appearances, and Robert Pattinson (Edward) will be visiting the Orland Square Mall this weekend.  Information on the event and how you can attend is included on the site.

There’s also been an announcement that hit series “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is being made into a movie.  Articles about the casting process have appeared in the Chicago Tribune and the LA Times.

Cool Contests

Are you a big Greg Heffley fan?  Or maybe just a budding comic book artist?  Well, then check out the cool Diary of a Wimpy Kid contest running until January 31, 2009.  You can create your own comic and send it in for a chance to win an author visit from Jeff Kinney to your school!

The Letters About Literature contest is for those of you who really love to read.  Choose a book (fiction or non-fiction), a short story, poem, essay, or speech that you feel strongly about and write a letter to the author about how that piece of literature affected you.  This contest is open to grades 4-12, and entries must be postmarked by December 6, 2008.

A contest of a different sort will be taking place in November–National Novel Writing Month.  Join the Young Writers Program (for teens 17 & younger) and compete against time to reach your writing goal!  NaNoWriMo is more about quantity rather than quality, and the challenge helps many writers sit down and really work consistently on a project–plus, you have the 11 months until next year’s challenge to edit, edit, and edit again :)   A great contest for anyone with dreams of writing the next great novel!
