Only 2 More Weeks Left!

The last two programs of the summer are coming up–have you signed up yet??

For grades 6-9, we have a Duct Tape craft program on Wednesday, July 30th from 7-8 p.m.  We’ll have lots of different colors of tape, which you can transform into a wallet, a bookmark, or something of your own design!  Register at the Youth Services Desk or by phone.

Everyone is invited to our Summer Reading Program closing event, which will be on Friday, August 1st at 2 p.m.  Dave Rudolph will be performing, so grab a seat on the lawn and help us close out the Summer Reading Program with singing, dancing, and lots of craziness!

And for our AWESOME volunteers, please make sure that you’ve RSVP’d to the Volunteer Thank You Party, which will be happening on Friday, August 1st from 12-1 p.m.  We’ve got a great lunch planned, as our way of saying thanks for all of your hard work this summer.  We couldn’t have a Summer Reading Program without our volunteers!

Don’t forget that you can still turn in your Summer Reading logs and collect more prizes (or raffle tickets for the bonus levels!) for the time you spend reading.  We’ll be accepting logs until August 1st, so stop by the Youth Services Department today :)

Summer Reading Continues!

Don’t forget that you can turn in your Summer Reading logs until August 1st, so even if you’ve gotten a late start to your reading, there will still be plenty of cool prizes in your future.

And for those of you who have finished all 4 levels of the teen log, remember that you can turn in up to 3 bonus levels for more raffle tickets (and more chances to win fun stuff like your very own book!).  The library will hold raffle prizes until August 9th, so if you’re already a winner, make sure you stop by the Youth Services Desk and claim your prize :)

Summer Reading!

Now that the last day of school is =finally= in sight, its time to start thinking about Summer Reading!  At Messenger Public Library, teens are super lucky, because you have a choice between two different programs–you can join the Teen program, and pick up a log at the Youth Services desk, or you can join the Adult program, and pick up a log at the Adult Services desk.  Either way, you are in for a summer full of awesome books and cool prizes!

Need a few book suggestions to get you started on your Summer Reading path?  I thought you’d never ask!  You can start your search at http://www.teenreads.com/ or http://www.readergirlz.com/issue.html for some great reviews.  One of my personal favourites is the Popular Paperbacks list, which is put out every year by YALSA (or the Young Adult Library Services Association–a group of librarians totally dedicated to serving teens!).  For 2009, the very cool categories for nominations are “Dead, Dying and Undead,” “Fame and Fortune,” “Journey > Destination” (there’s a little math reference for you), and “Spies and Intrigue.”  Even better is the Teens’ Top Ten list, which is a set of nominated books that you can check out over the summer, and then you can vote for the ones you liked the best in October.  So what are you waiting for?  Get in the Game: Read!
